Ana-Illinois issued the following announcement on Jan. 6.

The World Health Assembly, the governing body of the World Health Organization, declared 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, in honor of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. ANA Enterprise is leading Nursing Now USA along with the Chief Nurse, U.S. Public Health Service; the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill; and the University of Washington, School of Nursing. The declaration is an extension of work initiated by the Nursing Now campaign to elevate the profession and ensure nurses are leading efforts to improve health and health care.

To complement these efforts, the focus of this year’s Professional Issues Conference is Excel, Lead, & Innovate. We are seeking presentations that demonstrate the ability of nurses to influence and shape healthcare through excellence in practice, leadership, or innovation.

The overall conference learning outcome is:

Recognize the unique contributions of nurses to individuals, communities, health care systems, and the nursing profession as a whole.
