County of Union

The Union County Board of Commissioners met for a regular meeting in the Union County Courthouse Community Room at 8:30 a.m. Roll call was taken with Kent Pitts, Bobby Toler Jr., and Max Miller were present. Dale Foster and David Gould were absent and County Chairman Max Miller called the meeting to order.

A motion was made by Kent Pitts and seconded by Bobby Toler Jr to approve the minutes of the September 13, 2019 meeting.

A motion was made by Kent Pitts and seconded by Bobby Toler Jr. to approve the executive session minutes of the August 23, 2019 meeting.

Sheriff Scott Harvel updated everyone on the cleanup in Wolf Lake. The Sheriff's office has issued 3 citations on nuisance property. There is a group in Wolf Lake that are trying to clean up the area. Chairman Miller is optimistic that the court will handle these matters quickly.

Commissioner Bobby Toler Jr. wanted to thank everyone who helps with the food truck. There was a Sack the Hunger Event at Kroger in Anna along with WSIL. That event was successful with $168.25 in monetary donations and 1,146 pounds of food. LiHeap starts October 21st and this helps residents with energy assistance. Chairman Max Miller informed everyone that The Southern 7 Health Department is having a Strolling through the Colon event October 4th from 10:30 am -1:00 pm. They will also have flu shots available.

Chairman Miller, Angela Knupp and Kevin Grammer attended a meeting in Peoria, Illinois that was put on by Snedeker Risk Management. They received a lot of good information from that meeting.

Kevin Grammer mentioned that the bridge work on Bauer and Nash roads are completed.

Bobby Toler Jr said he has many people compliment on the oil and chip work being done on the county roads.

A motion was made by Bobby Toler Jr. and seconded by Kent Pitts to approve the building permits:

New Business:

A motion was made by Kent Pitts and seconded by Bobby Toler Jr. to approve the bills from September 16th to September 27th.

A motion was made by Max Miller and seconded by Bobby Toler Jr. to approve the Tourism Grant Application by the Historical Society for Christmas in the Village of Cobden. Application amount was $350.00

Motion Passed.

A motion was made by Max Miller and seconded by Bobby Toler Jr. to approve the Ordinance of Establishing a County Cannabis Retailers' Occupation Tax in the County of Union, Illinois. This establishes a 3 percent tax on the sale of recreational cannabis. The County receives 1.5 percent of the tax and the Illinois Department of Revenue receives the other 1.5 percent tax.
