Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 31.

From the office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, December 15-28, 2019;

December 17, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to a vehicle in the ditch on Catherine near 19th St. Upon arrival, Officers observed a silver Impala stuck in the ditch. The driver, James H. Smith, 59, Fridley, MN could not explain how he ended up in the ditch. Smith had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech and other signs of impairment. Smith failed the field sobriety tests. A compute check revealed that he did not have a valid driver’s license. Smith was arrested for DUI and no valid driver’s license. Smith was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

December 18, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of E. 21st. The female caller advised somebody was trying to gain entry by force into her residence. Upon arrival, Officers located Christopher E. Walker, 52, Metropolis in her carport. The door to the residence was damaged but no entry was gained. Walker was extremely intoxicated. Investigation revealed that he thought he was at his home and was mad that his key was not working. The victim did not know Walker. Walker was arrested for criminal damage to property and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. He was released on bond and taken to his correct residence.

Anthony G Jackson, 33, Carterville, IL was arrested on a warrant at the Metropolis Police Dept. Jackson was wanted on a Massac County warrant for grooming (sex offenses). Jackson was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

December 21, 2019

A Metropolis Officer observed Darrell A McCoy,56, Metropolis walking in the 500 block of Yasoda. A computer check revealed that McCoy was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Battery. McCoy was arrested. A search found him to be in possession of Clonazepam (a controlled narcotic). He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. McCoy was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

December 22, 2019

Craig L. Montgomery,29, Metropolis was arrested in the 900 block of Vienna St. Montgomery was wanted on a Massac County warrant for domestic Battery. He was also wanted on a McCracken County, KY warrant for vehicle theft. Montgomery was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Police were called to the 600 block of Vienna. Caller stated that he observed a couple arguing and that the male swung at the female. Upon arrival, Officers located the couple. The victim had obvious signs of being struck and minor injuries. Matthew L Owens, 27, Metropolis was arrested for domestic battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

December 23, 2019

A Metropolis Sergeant arrested Jeremiah D. Pannell, 34, Metropolis at 10th and Market. Pannell was wanted on two warrants. Pannell was wanted by Massac County and Union County on warrants for failure to appear. Pannell was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

December 25, 2019

Ronald L. Greer, 31, Karnak was arrested at the Acee’s Truck Stop. Greer was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Johnson County for Failure to appear. Greer was taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. He was released on bond.

A Metropolis Officer stopped a white Chrysler for speeding (48 mph in 35 mph zone) on US 45 near E. 8th St. A computer check revealed that the driver, Michael M. Kolb, 36, Glendale, CA had a suspended driver’s license. Kolb was charged with driving while license suspended and speeding. He was released on bond.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
