Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Nov. 13.

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, November 2-10, 2019;

November 2, 2019

A Metropolis Officer stopped a white Chevrolet on 5th Street near Yasoda. The vehicle was stopped for speeding, 60/35 zone and for weaving in and out of the marked traffic lane. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath and observed other signs of impairment. The driver subsequently failed the field sobriety tests. The driver, James J. Shrewsbury,33, Sellersburg, IN was arrested and charged with DUI, Speeding and improper lane usage. Shrewsbury was taken to the Metropolis Police Department for processing. He was able to post bond and was released.

November 3, 2019

Joe Taylor,27, Homeless, was arrested in the 1300 block of Girard. Metropolis Police were called to the area for a report of subjects looking into a window. Taylor was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Possession of Methamphetamine. Taylor was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

November 5, 2019

On 10/28/2019, Metropolis Officers initiated a criminal investigation where the victim was attacked by a female offender, that the victim stopped to help because she seemed to be in distress. The investigation led to a suspect whom an arrest warrant was issued for. On 11/5/2019 a Metropolis detective observed the offender at the Massac County Courthouse. Desiree D. Morrison, 31, Metropolis was arrested for Aggravated Battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Issac B. Lambert,30, Wingo, KY was arrested at the Citgo on E. 5th St. Wingo was wanted on a Massac County Warrant. The warrant was for Burglary to motor vehicle. Lambert was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Officers were called to the 1300 block of Girard. The caller stated there were people looking around a residence that were using a flashlight. Prior to arrival, MPD was notified that the subject left in a marron van. A Metropolis Sergeant observed the maroon Nissan on Girard Street and conducted a traffic stop. The Sergeant recognized the driver as Donnie dle,38, Karnak, IL. The Sergeant was aware that Kindle had a revoked driver’s license. A computer check confirmed the status as revoked. Kindle could not provide proof of insurance. The Sergeant also observed 3 open bottles of liquor in the vehicle. The investigation revealed that they were checking out the residence at the request of the people living there, that were not home at the time, but their alarm activated. Kindle was arrested for driving while revoked, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation of open alcohol. Kindle was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

November 7, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance in the alley in the 1100 block of Market Street. Christopher L. Murphy,39, Metropolis was found to be wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Louisville, KY for Possession of a controlled substance. Murphy was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

November 8, 2019

Metropolis Officers responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of W. 8th. The victims stated that Abraham Lincoln Ward,44, Metropolis had damaged property and struck two people. Ward was arrested for Battery (2) and criminal damage to property. Ward was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
