Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 8.

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, September 29-October 5, 2019;

September 29, 2019

A Metropolis Officer observed a blue Hyundai with a defective taillight on 10th and Market St. A traffic stop was made. A computer check on the driver, Gregory N. Know,25, Elizabethtown, Ky revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. Knox was taken to the Metropolis Police Dept. for processing. Knox was able to post bond and was released.

September 30, 2019

Metropolis Police received a call of a reckless driver on Girard Street. Officers checked the area and located the vehicle as it was turning onto Catherine St. A traffic stop was conducted and the vehicle stopped in the 1300 block of Girard. The Sergeant detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath and noted other signs of impairment. The driver, James B Padgett,51, Metropolis was given a set of field sobriety tests which he failed. Padgett was arrested for DUI. A computer check revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. He was also charged with that. Padgett was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

October 1, 2019

A Metropolis Sergeant observed John G Seigart,60, Homeless, walking on courthouse Square. The sergeant was aware that Seigart was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Criminal Trespass to Property. Seigart was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

October 2, 2019

A Metropolis Officer had stopped a maroon Chevrolet pick-up truck on Ferry and 6th St. A computer check on the driver, Ashley R Jenkins, 25, Brookport revealed that her license had expired over a year ago. Jenkins was arrested. A search of her purse revealed a credit card belonging to another individual. An investigation was initiated. Upon contacted the owner of the credit card, he advised that it had been stolen a few days prior and he suspected Jenkins of taking it. Jenkins was also charged with unlawful possession of the credit card. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

October 3, 2019

A Metropolis Officer stopped a silver Mercury on US 45 and Devers Rd. The vehicle had an expired registration sticker and defective taillight. A computer check on the driver, Darius M. Hatchett,22, Golconda, revealed that his driver’s license was expired for over a year. He could not provide proof of insurance as well. Hatchett was arrested and charged with no valid driver’s license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

October 4, 2019

Donnie D. Kindle,38, Karnak was arrested on a warrant at 12th and Girard. The warrant was issued by Johnson County, IL for failure to appear. A search of Kindle revealed a plastic baggie containing Meth. Kindle was also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine. Kindle was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
