Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Sept. 17.

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, September 8-14, 2019;

September 8, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to an Apartment at the Haven House on 8th St. The investigation led to the arrest of William A McCormick, 38, Metropolis. He was charged with Battery and taken to the Metropolis Police Department booking. Upon completion he was released on bond.

September 9, 2019

On September 8, 2019, Metropolis Police took a theft report. The theft occurred at Massac Memorial Hospital. On September 9, The Metropolis Detective Sergeant continued the investigation. Video was viewed as well as other information was obtained which led the sergeant to a suspect. Further investigation led to the arrest of Autumn N. Tozier, 26, Metropolis. Tozier was charged with the theft and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept. for processing. Tozier was released on bond. Most of the items stolen were recovered.

Metropolis Officers were called to the 1300 block of Catherine. The victim stated that he was arguing with Matthew R. Lewis, 27, Metropolis and was struck in the face by Lewis. The victim wanted to sign a complaint. Lewis was arrested for Battery. Lewis admitted to slapping the victim in the face after the victim brought Lewis’s children into the argument. Lewis was transported to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. He was able to post bond and was released.

September 10, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance at 9th and Market. Kenneth L. Mitchell, 38, Metropolis was yelling at a female. A computer check revealed that Mitchell was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for failure to appear in court. Mitchell was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

September 12, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to the Dollar General on E. 8th St. Officers were advised that Angela J. Hayes, 58, Metropolis was observed putting items into her purse and leaving the store without paying for them. Officers recovered the items in her purse. Hayes was arrested for Retail Theft and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. Hayes was released on bond.

September 13, 2019

Metropolis Offices were called to a residence in the 800 block of Parkview. Amanda J. Jrnnings,34, Harrisburg, IL was arrested for Violation of an order of protection and criminal trespass to property. Jennings had been previously trespassed from the Parkview Apartments and there is an active order of protection prohibiting her from being at the apartment she had entered. Jennings was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
