Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Sept. 13.
On September 11, 2019, Metropolis Police started an investigation into a theft. The offender had taken a package that had been delivered and left on a porch in the 400 block of Catherine Street. The victim had surveillance cameras in place and captured the theft.
On September 12, 2019, Officer Nick Holland while on patrol, observed a subject in the area of 10th and Ferry wearing the exact clothing and bandana that the thief was wearing. Upon looking closer, Officer Holland observed that this was the same subject observed in the video. Michael A Ralston, 39, homeless, was arrested for the theft. During the arrest, he was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Ralston was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Ralston was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
