Joppa-Maple Grove Community Unit School District 38 Board met July 22.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

President Castleman called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.

Roll call, all members present. (Kevin Castleman, Gail Stubblefield, Peggy McNeill, Stacey Reames, Danny Burnett, Denise Myers, and Chris McGinniss)

Others present: Superintendent, Vickie Artman, Linda Kennedy, Kelly Cunningham, Charles Richey and Harold Hicks.

Charles Richey presented a program concerning safety and what to do when one strikes and he says we are due for one soon. He explained about ham radios and other hand held radios that would work after a disaster. Students could also take a course and earn college credits when finished. Massac County Schools and Massac County Emergency Management are already signed up for this program. The cost would be $2500.00 but he was sure grants could be gotten for the equipment. The board thanked him and will discuss it.

Dr. Artman went over the Principals report in Terri's absence and explained her report as presented.

Motion by Chris and second by Denise to go into closed session for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1),

Collective negotiating between the District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. 5ILCS 120/(c)(2), and

Litigation when an action against affecting or on behalf of the particular public body has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or when the public body finds that an action Is probable or imminent, in which case the basic for the findings shall be recorded and entered into the minutes of the closed meeting 5ILCS 120/2 (c)(11)

Went into closed session at 7:30 pm.

Motion by Chris and second by Denise to return to regular session at 9:25 pm. All voted yes. M/C

Motion by Chris and second by Danny to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. All voted yes, M/C.

Motion by Danny and second by Chris to appoint Gail Stubblefield as Jamp Governing Board Member and Peggy McNeill as the Alternate Member. All voted yes. M/C

Motion by Stacey and second by Chris to approve changes to the Student Handbooks for Maple Grove Elementary and Joppa Jr/Sr High School. All voted yes. M/C

Motion by Danny and second by Denise to approve the Joppa-Maple Grove Athletic Handbook. All voted yes. M/C.

Motion by Denise and second by Chris to employ Josiah Teal for the position of Social Studies certified teacher. Denise, yes Chris, yes Stacey, yes Peggy, yes Danny, yes Gail, yes Kevin, yes M/C.

Motion by Chris and second by Denise to employ Alyssa Castleman as an at will employee in the position of Instructional Aide.
