The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) are being sued by residents of Metropolis who allege the agencies have failed to provide documents relating to a nuclear contamination lawsuit in Massac County.

The plaintiffs say that the IDPH and IEMA did not provide the materials requested of them in a class-action lawsuit against Honeywell. Metropolis residents have alleged that the Honeywell nuclear plant contaminated large areas of land in the area for many years.

Former Illinois State Senate Majority Leader James Clayborne called the agencies' refusal to grant the document requests "unacceptable," according to WSIU public broadcasting. The city of Metropolis and Massac County are looking to condemn the agencies’ denials and demand that the IDPH and IEMA cooperate.
