Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, August 18-24, 2019;

August 18, 2019

Metropolis Officers arrested Roy C. Berkley,57, Metropolis at a residence in the 100 block of E. 15th St. Berkley was charged with Domestic Battery after he had punched the victim in the face. Berkley was allegedly upset that he could not find his needle/syringe. Berkley was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

August 20, 2019

On August 19, 2019, Metropolis Police started an investigation in to the theft of cameras from the Super Suds Laundry on E. 5th St. While looking at video surveillance of the theft, a Metropolis Detective recognized the thief, as Billy J Purvis, 43, Metropolis. Purvis was located and taken into custody on August 20th. He was charged with Theft and Criminal Damage to Property. He was processed at the Metropolis Police Dept and released on bond.

August 23, 2019

Joseph A Mounce,31, Metropolis was arrested for theft of public utilities and interference with public utilities. Mounce was found to have illegally reestablish electricity to his residence in the 1600 block of Filmore after it was shut off for non-payment. Since this was not the first time Mounce has done this, he was charged on a state criminal charge and not a city ordinance. Mounce was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

August 24, 2019

Matt l Owens, 26, Metropolis was arrested for Assault and Disorderly Conduct. The victim advised Metropolis Officers that Owens approached him inside the Family Dollar store. Owens approached the victim stating that he was going to beat him up. Owens was also yelling and threatening the victim. Owens had left prior to the arrival of MPD. Later on, that evening, Owens was located at the Huck’s. He was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
