Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, August 4-10, 2019;

August 4, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to assist a parole agent at a residence in the 200 block of Catherine. Officers discovered that Shane R Oliver,38, Metropolis was in possession of Methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. Oliver was charged with both and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. The parole agent will be following up with additional charges.

August 5, 2019

A Metropolis Officer observed a Gray Lexus pass by him. He recognized the driver as Danette K. Lewis,50, Metropolis. Lewis had a revoked driver’s license. A computer check also revealed that she was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Failure to appear – DUI. A traffic stop was conducted on Kennedy St near Commercial Drive. Lewis was arrested and charged with the warrant as well as driving while revoked. Lewis was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis Officer was stopped at the stop sign at 10th and Ferry. The officer observed a Brown Kia SUV blow through the intersection without stopping for the stop sign. The Kia then crossed three lanes of traffic hit a power pole so hard it snapped the pole. The driver then backed up and pulled away striking another vehicle, bounced off that one and struck a third vehicle. The driver, Robin D Bomar, 58, Metropolis showed signs of obvious impairment/intoxication. She had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, slurred speech, poor balance. Bomar was charged with DUI, disobeying a stop sign, driving in wrong lane, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident. Bomar was able to post bond and was released.

August 6, 2019

Joseph A Mounce,31, Metropolis was arrested in the 900 block of Girard. Mounce was wanted on a Massac County warrant. The warrant was for failure to appear – theft. Mounce was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis Sergeant was called by a retired police officer that he observed a Brandon L Smith,36, Metropolis, driving a red Chevrolet Blazer on 5th St, near Big John’s. Smith has a suspended driver’s license. The Sergeant located the vehicle as it was turning from Metropolis St to the alley behind the Humma’s apartments on 3rd. Smith fled from the vehicle and started running away. Another Metropolis Officer saw Smith and was able to track him down. A search of the vehicle found a small amount of Meth. Smith was charged driving while license suspended and possession of Meth. Smith was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Officers were called to a shed behind the residence in the 1000 block of E.6th St. Caller stated that two people had entered the shed and that they did not live there. Offices arrived and located Michael Lynn Curtis, 37, Hardin, KY and Robert B Vanzant,27, Paducah, KY inside the shed. Officers also located Meth and drug paraphernalia. Both were charged with possession of Meth and drug paraphernalia. Curtis also was wanted on a Massac County Warrant for a Meth charge. Both were lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

August 9, 2019

A Metropolis Officer observed a Jimmy D. Griffin, 24, Metropolis, riding a bicycle on W. 10th near Casey’s. The officer knew that Griffin was wanted on a warrant issued by Massac County. The warrant was for failure to appear – Theft. As the officer attempted to stop Griffin he attempted to flee. As Griffin tried to drive across some grass, he crashed his bike and then continued to try and flee on foot. The officer chased him down and took him into custody at 8th and Vienna. Griffin was charged with the warrant as well as resisting arrest. Griffin was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance in the parking lot of Sav-A-Lot. Upon arrival, Officers had the parties separated and was conducted their investigation to find out what had happened. Hannah M. Lewis, 19, Metropolis then started yelling and threatening another female. She then started to advance towards the female in an aggressive manner. The officers were then forced to detain her from attacking but she kept yelling and threatening the other female. Lewis ignored the officers and refused to quit struggling. She was then advised she was under arrest and then she became more combative with the officers. Lewis was charged with obstructing and resisting arrest. Lewis was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
