Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on June 18.
From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, June 9-15, 2019;
June 9, 2019
Metropolis Officers were called to a fight in progress in the area of 3rd and Lincoln Streets. Upon arrival, Officers observed two groups of people. The investigation led to the arrest of Dantoria D Crice,18, Metropolis and a 14-year-old juvenile for disorderly conduct. Crice was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. The 14-year-old was released to her mother with a court date. Further charges may be pending upon review by the State’s Attorney.
James C Stevens,37, Metropolis was arrested in the 1500 block of Ferry. Stevens was wanted on two warrants. The first warrant was for Stalking-no contact order and the second was for failure to appear. Stevens was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
At approximately 5:54pm a call was received reporting a green truck driving recklessly in the 1000 block of Pearl Street. The caller advised that the vehicle was spinning the tires in the yard and then onto the street going North. The Metropolis K9 officer observed the vehicle at 11th and Vienna. The officer recognized the driver as Michael J Seaton,34, Metropolis. As the officer was attempting the traffic stop, Seaton drove the vehicle onto a sidewalk and through a lot by his residence. He then fled into the residence with the officer chasing him. Seaton resisted arrest and after a short struggle was taken into custody. Seaton was charged with traffic offenses as well as driving while license revoked and resisting arrest. Seaton was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The Metropolis K9 officers stopped a blue Dodge van for a defective headlight on US 45 and Pullen Rd. A computer check revealed that the driver, David M Smithson, 51, Buncombe, IL had a suspended driver’s license. During an inventory search, officers found an open bottle of alcohol. Smithson was charged with driving while suspended and illegal transportation of open alcohol. Prior to being transported, Smithson started to complain of chest pains. An ambulance was called. Smithson was released on bond and taken by ambulance to the hospital.

A Metropolis Sergeant stopped a vehicle on 12th Street near Barger for an equipment violation. The driver, Christina R. Coburn46, Metropolis was found to be wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Graves County, KY for bail jumping – first degree. Coburn was taken into custody. The Metropolis K9 alerted on the vehicle. As Denise Gilbert, 46, Metropolis, was exiting the car, she attempted to take her purse. She was advised to leave it there until the search was completed. She took a large drinking cup with her. Inside the purse, officers found drug paraphernalia and syringes. When asked to see what was in the drinking cup, Gilbert attempted to reach her hand into the cup. A struggle ensued with Gilbert attempting to keep the officers from the cup. Officers found a clear baggie inside the drink. The baggie contained Meth. Gilbert was charged with Possession of Meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of syringes/needles and resisting arrest. Both were lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

At 2:14 am, a 12-year-old juvenile was arrested fur curfew and 3rd and Scott St. She was cited and released to a parent.
June 13, 2019
On June 10th, Metropolis Officers started investigating the brutal beating of a female which occurred in the 1000 block of Girard. During the investigation a subject was identified, and search started to attempt to locate him. Officers finally located him in the area of 11th and Filmore. A foot chase ensued, and a perimeter was set up. Officers were finally able to capture him as he ran through the back yards near Catherine and 12th St. Michael Kent Mitchell, 51, Metropolis was charged with Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Domestic Battery. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
June 14, 2019
Jordan Aiden Dyer, 21, Metropolis was arrested at Catherine and 4th St. She was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Union County, IL for ID Theft. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Jonathan B. Harris, 24, Metropolis was arrested for Criminal Damage to Property and Possession of a Controlled substance (Alprazolam). The victim advised that Harris broke the windshield and mirror on a Chevrolet Impala and broke out the side window of another vehicle both belonging to the victim. Harris was also observed throwing a cigarette package towards the victim which contained some pills (Alprazolam). A search found more of the pills in his pants pocket inside a pill bottle for a different prescription. Harris was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
June 15, 2019
A Metropolis Sergeant observed a blue Infiniti on 5th and Market. The Sergeant recognized the driver as Justin M Adams,37, Metropolis. The sergeant was aware that Adams had a suspended driver’s license. As traffic stop was conducted. Since the suspension was due to Adams being behind in child support payments, he was issued a citation and released. The car was towed.
The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
