Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on May 14.

May 5, 2019

A Metropolis Officer stopped a white Chevrolet pick-up truck on Market at 11th St for expired Registration. A computer check showed the plates to have expired back in January. A computer check on the driver, Dustin Paul Spillma,21, Metropolis, had a suspended driver’s license. Spillman could not provide proof of insurance. Spillman was arrested and charged with no valid registration, driving while license suspended, and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. Spillman was taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. He was released on bond.

May 6, 2019

Ronald J Greer,20,Karnak, was arrested in the 100 block of W. 10th. Greer was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Violation of an order of protection. Greer was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis Officer stopped a gray Honda Civic on Devers Rd north of the Frontage Rd. The license plates on the Honda came back to a Ford. A computer check on the river, Matthew Ryan Culwell, 27, Buncombe, IL revealed that his driver’s license was suspended. The officers observed a syringe and needle by his feet on the floorboard as he stepped out of the vehicle. A more thorough search revealed a black bag containing additional syringes with liquid and blood mixed. These tested positive for Meth. Culwell was charged with improper use of registration, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, possession of Meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. Culwell was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 7, 2019

A Metropolis Officer observed a white Nissan pick-up truck on 15th St. The officer recognized the driver as Cale A Lewis,38, Metropolis. The officer was aware that Lewis’s license was suspended. A traffic stop was made on Metropolis St and 15th. Lewis was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Rachal D Short,38, Metropolis was arrested in the 400 block of W. 6th. Short was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Domestic Battery. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance in the 1400 block of Girard. Upon arrival, Officers learned that kids were playing ball and parents were watching, when they were disrupted by a female, yelling and cursing and causing a disturbance. Officers contacted Lottie R. Sexton,49, Metropolis who showed signs of intoxication. She was very agitated. A complainant wanted to sign a complaint for disorderly conduct. Sexton was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 9, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance on Speckman. Upon arrival, Officers learned that a 16 yr old juvenile, struck and pushed her grandmother. The juvenile was arrested for Domestic Battery and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. She was released to a parent pending action by the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Metropolis Officers were called to Big John’s for a theft. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with the manager and viewed video tape. The tape showed the subject place an item under his shirt and leave without paying for the items. The officers were able to identify the subject. Offices checked the area and located the subject near 5th and Cherry St. The 14-year-old was arrested and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. The juvenile was released to his mother pending a court date for retail theft.

May 10, 2019

A Metropolis Officer stopped a white Chrysler on 12th and Girard for a defective windshield. A computer check on the driver, Clarissa L Coburn,33, Brookport, IL revealed that her driver’s license was suspended. She was arrested and charged with Driving while license suspended and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. She was taken to the Metropolis Police Department for processing. She was released on bond.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
