Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on April 30.
From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, April 21-27, 2019;
April 21, 2019
Metropolis Officers were called to Harrah’s Casino. Upon arrival, they met with IL Gaming Agents who advised that Sui Kung,30, Indianapolis, IN had tried to enter the Casino on three occasions on today’s date. Kung had been previously trespassed from all Ceasar’s property. Kung was arrested for criminal trespass to property. Kung was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 22, 2019
Metropolis Officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Walter Drive. Upon arrival, the victim advised that her husband, Jerry R. Meeker, 44, Metropolis had tried to choke her and shoved her against the stove. Meeker was arrested for Domestic Battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 23, 2019
Billy J. Purvis,43, Metropolis was arrested in the 1700 block of Filmore. Purvis was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Pope County for failure to appear. Purvis was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 24, 2019
Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance at the Southgate Nursing Home. Upon arrival, Officers observed Blake A Lynch,26, Metropolis who was causing the disturbance. Lynch was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County. The warrant was for a petition to revoke parole/probation on a delivery of a controlled substance charge. Lynch was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Disturbance solved.
A Metropolis Sergeant stopped a gray Hyundai on Ferry St, near the Casino. The Sgt observed that the driver of the vehicle could not keep from weaving and could not sustain a constant speed. The driver, bobby Jo Mathis, 79, Smith’s Station, AL had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech and other signs of intoxication. Mathis failed the field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI. Officers also found an open bottle of Whiskey in the vehicle. Mathis was charged with improper lane usage, DUI and illegal transportation of open alcohol. He was processed and released on bond.
April 26, 2019
A Metropolis Officer stopped a Red Jeep SUV on 5th and Metropolis. The Jeep had an expired Registration Sticker. A computer check on the driver, Benjamin R. Griggs, 42, Metropolis revealed that he had a suspended driver’s license. He could not provide proof of insurance. Griggs was arrested for expired registration operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and driving while license suspended. Griggs was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 27, 2019
A Metropolis Officer observed Christy J. Eleam,44, Metropolis walking on 8th and Filmore. The officer was aware that she was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Pope County for Driving while license revoked. The officer stopped and arrested her. Elam was found to be in possession of two baggies containing Meth as well as drug paraphernalia. Eleam was arrested on the warrant and charged with possession of Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Eleam was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
