Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on April 16.

April 9, 2019
A Metropolis Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on US 45 & Mary’s Ln. The driver accelerated once the emergency lights were activated on the squad car and pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued into town on US 45 to Yasoda, then onto 6th St to Cherry St. The pursuit continued to an alley between 4th and 5th where the vehicle got stuck. A foot pursuit then ensued for a couple of blocks. Steven J Youman, 24, Metropolis was taken into custody. Youman was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving while license revoked, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and resisting arrest. Youman was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

An alert neighbor observed a suspicious person looking into yards and at houses in the 200 block of E. 18th Street. The concerned citizen contacted the police. While the police were enroute, the citizen observed the subject enter a garage and steal a pancake air compressor. As the thief was walking away with the compressor, the citizen confronted him and told him to put the compressor back from where he stole it. Metropolis officers arrived shortly thereafter. Larry T. Coulter, 57, Evanston, IL was arrested and charged with burglary and theft. Coulter was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Cheston L. Sledd, 31, Metropolis was arrested in the 1200 block of Market St. Sledd was wanted on a Morgan County IL warrant. The warrant was for failure to appear in court. Sledd was able to post bond and was released after being processed at the Metropolis Police Dept.
Metropolis Officers were called by the principal at the Jr. High School. She advised two suspicious people were walking around the front parking lot and one had a large knife on his side. Upon arrival, officers confronted the subjects. The male initially gave a false name/DOB, however, his true identity was figured out. Terry S. Kirks,33, Metropolis was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for aggravated domestic battery. Kirks was arrested and a search revealed the he was in possession of Meth, drug paraphernalia and brass knuckles. Kirk stated that the shorts he was wearing were not his. Kirk was charged with possession of Meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of a weapon. Kirk was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis Officer ran a computer check on a white Jeep with TN registration on US 454 and I-24. The Jeep came back stolen out of Chattanooga TN. A traffic stop was conducted in the parking lot of Acee’s. The vehicle was confirmed as stolen. A computer check on the driver, Jessica Marie Richards, 35, Trenton GA revealed that her driver’s license was suspended. Richards was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and driving while suspended. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
