Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 12.

March 1, 2019
Andrea L. Massey (Depke), 31, Metropolis was arrested in the 500 block of W. 9th. Massey was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for failure to appear or pay a fine. Massey was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis Sergeant observed a white Nissan pick-up truck without license plates on 5th & Oak. A compute check on the driver, Bobby J. Lang,41, Paducah, KY revealed that he had a suspended driver’s license. Lang was arrested and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. Lang was able to post bond and was released.
Metropolis Police received a call from Huck’s stating that the subject from an earlier theft had returned to the store. A Metropolis Sergeant had taken the original report and viewed the video footage from the store. The Sgt recognized the thief as Matthew (Mattie) Jenkins,28, Metropolis. MPD officers had been unable to locate Jenkins. Upon arrival to Huck’s, a Metropolis Sergeant and canine officer entered the store and located Jenkins still inside. Jenkins was arrested and a search found a hypodermic needle/syringe loaded with a clear substance that field tested positive for Meth. As they were leaving the store, officers observed Denise Gilbert,46, Metropolis walking away from Jenkins vehicle carrying a backpack. A canine sniff of the backpack showed a positive hit for contraband. A meth pipe was located in the backpack. A search of the vehicle located another loaded syringe with Meth. Jenkins was charged with possession of Meth and retail theft. Gilbert was charged with possession of Meth and drug paraphernalia. Both were lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
March 2, 2019
A Metropolis Officer observed a gold colored Toyota turn off of Lois Ln onto North Ave. A computer check on the registration revealed that the registration expired back in 2018. A traffic stop was conducted, and the officer observed a valid sticker on the plate that had been altered. A computer check on the driver, Adrienne L. Davis,40, Metropolis revealed that her license was revoked. Davis was taken into custody. A search revealed a bag that contained Cocaine. Davis was arrested and charged with possession of Cocaine, driving while license revoked, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid registration and improper use of registration. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
March 3, 2019
Metropolis Officers received information that Gerald Cody Moore,27, Joppa was at the SuperSuds laundry mat. Moore was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County on a motion to increase bail. Moore was located and he was leaving the store. Moore was arrested and a search revealed a baggie containing Meth. Moore was arrested for the warrant and charged with possession of Meth. Moore was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis Canine officer on patrol, observed a white Chevrolet Impala on Vienna and 10th St. The officer recognized the driver as Steven J. Youman,24, Metropolis who had a revoked driver’s license. A traffic stop was conducted and Youman was arrested. He was charged with driving while revoked-enhanced felony and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
March 4, 2019
Amanda J Jennings,33, Metropolis was arrested in the 600 block of W. 12th St. Jennings was wanted on a Massac County warrant. The warrant was issued on a motion to increase bail. Jennings was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
March 5, 2019
A Metropolis Officer observed a silver ford turning from Coburn onto 12th St. The officer recognized the driver as Diane M Sanford, 54, Metropolis. The officer was aware that Sanford did not have a valid drivers license. A traffic stop was conducted, and a computer check confirmed his suspicions. Sanford was arrested and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. Sanford was able to post bond and was released.
Metropolis Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 1000 block of Ferry St. Upon arrival, officers were informed by the victim that a blue Pontiac was in her lane. The victim sounded her horn, but the vehicle continued on and stuck her vehicle head on. Upon speaking with the driver of the Pontiac, Offices detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. The driver, Amanda D. Fairless, 38 Vienna had slurred speech, and had a hard time following basic directions. Fairless failed the field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI. An open bottle of whiskey was found in the vehicle. Fairless was charged with DUI, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, driving in the wrong lane, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and illegal transportation of open alcohol. Fairless was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
March 7, 2019
Metropolis Officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 1200 block of Ferry. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim had been choked and knocked to the ground. Jeremy Stevens,28, Metropolis was arrested for Domestic Battery. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis Officer stopped a red Dodge pick-up truck on US 45 at I-24 after a computer check revealed the license plates were suspended. A computer check on the driver, Michael R. Englehart,48, Brookport, revealed that his driver’s license had expired in 2017. Englehart was arrested and charged with no valid driver’s license, operation of a motor vehicle with suspended registration, and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. Englehart was taken to the Metropolis Police Department for processing. He was able to post bond and was released.
March 9, 2019
Shawn Nowlin,52, Metropolis was arrested in the 300 clock of Oak Drive. Nowlin was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Johnson County, IL for Fraud. Nowlin was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
