Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.
The Illinois Department of Transportation would like to alert motorists traveling on I-24 near Metropolis, Illinois that there will be a lane closure on the bridge that carries I-24 over the Ohio River.
The closures are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 4, 2019 extending through Thursday, March 7, 2019, and Monday, March 11, 2017 extending through Thursday, March 14, 2017. The closure will be effective from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day during these time periods.
Crews will be preforming the bi-annual inspection of the structure carrying Interstate 24 over the Ohio River.
Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the construction site as quickly as possible.
Through traffic is encouraged to seek alternate routes while this work is underway.
