Report: Pope County spent $9,380 per student in 2017-18

Spending per pupil at Pope County Community Unit School District 1 is up 15.1 percent from five years ago, according to a Southern Illinois News analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2017-18 report card shows the Pope County school district spent $8,151 per pupil in 2013-14. It spent $9,380 in 2017-18.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 569 to 534.

Pope County's spending in 2017-18 was 29.7 percent lower than the state average of $13,337.
