Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 21.

January 16, 2019
Jeffery S. Garrett,54, Metropolis was arrested at a residence in the 1000 block of Simmons. Garrett was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Battery. Garrett was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis Sergeant observed a gray Chevrolet pick-up truck pulling a trailer on Metropolis St. The Sergeant recognized the driver as Ronald Leon Greer, 30, Metropolis who had a suspended driver’s license. The Sergeant also observed that the trailer did not have registration and that the load was protruding more than 4 feet without a red flag. A traffic stop was conducted and 2 children under 8 were not secured in child seats. Greer could not provide proof of insurance. Greet was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid registration on trailer, failure to secure child under 8 in a child sear (2). Greer was taken to the Metropolis Police Station for processing. He was able to post bond and was released.
January 17, 2019
Kennedy L. Hale,28, Metropolis was arrested at a residence in the 500 block of E. 6th St. Hale was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by KY for parole violation. Hale was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
January 18, 2019
Metropolis Offices were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 1200 block of Ferry. Upon arrival, Officers met with the caller who stated that Ralph A. Gaines,60, Metropolis would not leave the house. Officers informed him that he had to leave and were ignored. Gaines was told numerous times that he would have to leave or be arrested. Officers offered to give him a ride somewhere and Gaines still ignored them. As officers started to escort him out of the residence, he started to resist. Officers then advised him that he was under arrest. Gaines was charged with Criminal trespass to residence and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
January 19, 2019
Metropolis Officers responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 500 block of Yasoda. Offices were advised by the victim that her items were scattered and “gone through”. She believed her roommate, Darrell A McCoy, 56, Metropolis had done this. She advised McCoy was hiding in a bedroom. McCoy was found hiding in a closet. A computer check revealed that McCoy was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Battery. McCoy was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis Officers were called to the Huck’s for a theft. Upon arrival, Officers learned that David E. Williams,58, Metropolis had placed an item in his pocket and attempted to leave the store without paying for them. Williams was arrested for Retail Theft and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis Officers received a call that a female was going to give Timothy A Ashworth,56, Metropolis a handgun, and that they were going to meet on Vienna St. Officers located Ashworth in the 1000 block of Vienna. A pat-down search revealed that Ashworth had a pistol in his coat pocket. Ashworth was arrested and charged with Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
