Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 14.

January 7, 2019
A Metropolis Sergeant observed a red GMC pick-up traveling southbound on North Ave. The Sergeant recognized the driver as Charles L. Rankin,44, Metropolis. The Sergeant was aware that Rankin had a revoked driver’s license. A traffic stop was conducted and a computer check confirmed Rankin as having a revoked driver’s license. Rankin was arrested and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. He was able to post bond and was released.
Jackson TH Strong, 32, Metropolis was arrested at 8th and Butler. Jackson was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Criminal trespass to vehicle. Jackson was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
January 11, 2019
A neighbor called the Metropolis Police Dept to advise that she observed a male “snooping” around a neighbor’s home and that she believed she saw him enter a shed. Metropolis Offices responded. The he first officer observed a subject he recognized as Larry D Riegger, 54, Metropolis in the shed. Upon seeing the officer, Reigger attempted to flee. He was quickly captured and taken into custody. Officers observed signs of a burglary as well as items “stacked” to be removed. On his person, officers found items belonging to the victim as well as a container with Meth. Riegger was arrested for Burglary, Theft and possession of Meth. Reigger was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Kerry J. Ezell, 56, Metropolis was arrested at a residence on Adkins St. Ezell was charged with Violation of an order of protection. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.
January 13, 2019
Metropolis Officers were called to Big John’s. An 98-year-old victim dropped his wallet and it was stolen by a female. This was captured on video surveillance inside the store. A metropolis officer recognized the thief as Christina L Avila, 48, Metropolis. Officers then went to her residence on Adkins. She denied taking the wallet until confronted with the video evidence. The wallet was then retrieved from her purse. Avila was arrested for theft of lost or mislaid property and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
