METROPOLIS POLICE DEPARTMENT: Metropolis Man arrested for Aggravated Battery

Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 19.

A 29-year-old man from Metropolis was arrested for Aggravated Battery. At 10:32am, December 19, 2018, a 9-1-1 call was received by Metropolis Dispatch. The caller stated that two males were involved in a fight and one had been stabbed. Metropolis Officers as well as Deputies from Massac County Sheriff’s Office responded to the alley in the 1200 block of Coburn. Upon arrival, officers learned that the 50-year-old victim from Brookport, Il got into a fight with Anthony M Kirby, 29, Metropolis. During the fight, Kirby pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the back and slashed him in the neck. The victim was transported by Massac County EMS to Massac Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Kirby was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery. Kirby was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
