City of Centralia Veteran Affairs Committee met Oct. 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Bill Smith with the pledge of allegiance. Members Present: Chappell, Moran, Murphy, Sensel, Smith, Jones and Helpingstine

Members Absent: Burris, Mathis, Sutherland, Young, Aarons (Emeritus Status) 

Public Comment- none

Minutes-

A motion was made by Chappell and second by Young to approve the minutes from the September 13, 2018, all in favor, motion carried.

Treasurers Report –

No financial report presented.

Ongoing Business –

There was no discussion on the Korean War Memorial as Sutherland was not present.

Flag brackets and bands, to replace those missing, were collected and will be used for flag presentations on light poles throughout Centralia. Flags will remain through Veterans Day, November 12. It was noted that the holiday pumpkins are also in place on many light poles, since they are made from wood, the flags may catch onto them and be damaged.

Lawn maintenance at Elmwood Cemetery was brought to the attention of the head of Public Property. 

New Business –

The Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion will solicit funds at the intersection of Broadway and Pullen, to support the Legion’s purchase of flags to be placed throughout Centralia.

Open Discussion –

With no further business to discuss a motion was made by Bill Smith and Seconded by Howard Jones to adjourn the meeting, all in favor, motion carried.
