Johnson County issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.
This week, the Johnson County Human Services Department (HSD) launched a 12 Most Wanted Food Drive to inspire community members to help their neighbors through hosting their own food drives. On the first day of the campaign, one resident dropped off 300 pounds of food for the food pantries.
There are one dozen most desirable foods that provide the fundamentals for family meals:
Helper meals
Oatmeal
Cereal
Peanut butter
Jelly
Canned fruit
Canned vegetables
Beans
Soup
Pasta sauce
Canned pasta
Canned chicken/tuna
Residents are encouraged to host their own food drive to help collect these types of food items. Students can earn service hours by hosting a food drive; every 50 items earns five service hours. HSD provides tips for a successful food drive on its Facebook page. Donations can be dropped off at the Olathe office, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. No appointment is needed.
