Shawnee Community Unit School District 84 students suspended 16 times in a single school year

Shawnee Community Unit School District 84 reported 16 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 16 students during the year. That equates to 4.8 percent of the 332 students enrolled.

Of the 16 in-school suspensions, all were given to boys.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 15 incidents. There were one incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 15 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
