Egyptian Community Unit School District 5 students suspended, expelled 351 times in a single school year

Egyptian Community Unit School District 5 reported one expulsions and 350 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 351 students during the year. That equates to 74.1 percent of the 474 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with unspecified reasons.

Of the 322 in-school suspensions, 240 were given to boys and 82 were given to girls, including 264 elementary or middle schoolers and 58 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 303 incidents. There were 18 incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 153 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 28 out-of-school suspensions, 10 were given to boys and 18 were given to girls, including 17 elementary or middle schoolers and 11 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 27 incidents. There were one incidents of alcohol. For 15 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
