County of Union School District 43 students suspended 174 times in a single school year

County of Union School District 43 reported 174 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 174 students during the year. That equates to 38.5 percent of the 452 students enrolled.

Of the 169 in-school suspensions, 135 were given to boys and 34 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 169 incidents. For 50 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes five incidents. For four incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
