Vienna Elementary School District 55 students suspended 59 times in a single school year

Vienna Elementary School District 55 reported 59 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 59 students during the year. That equates to 13.5 percent of the 436 students enrolled.

Of the 23 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 22 incidents. There were one incidents of tobacco. For 22 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 36 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 34 incidents. There were one incidents of drugs. For 28 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
