Vienna High School District 133 students suspended, expelled 55 times in a single school year

Vienna High School District 133 reported seven expulsions and 48 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 55 students during the year. That equates to 15.4 percent of the 357 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for three incidents with violence without physical injury, three incidents with unspecified reasons and one incident with drugs.

Of the 45 in-school suspensions, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 34 incidents. There were eight incidents of violence without physical injury. For 45 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes two incidents. There were one incidents of unspecified reasons. For two incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
