Pope County Community Unit School District 1 students suspended 44 times in a single school year

Pope County Community Unit School District 1 reported 44 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 44 students during the year. That equates to 8.2 percent of the 535 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 16 incidents. There were eight incidents of tobacco. For 22 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 13 incidents. There were five incidents of violence without physical injury. For nine incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
