How much has Cypress SD 64 overspent over the past 10 years?

Cypress Elementary School District 64 accumulated $926,070 in debt between fiscal years 2008 and 2017, according to a Southern Illinois News analysis of public schools data.

Spending and revenue data obtained for this analysis comes from the Illinois Local Education Agency Retrieval Network (ILEARN), which is part of the Illinois State Board of Education and collects data annually on school district financials.

Over the 10-year span, Cypress SD 64 reported 12.4 percent less revenue. At the same time, total spending went down 23.5 percent. The resulting deficit shrunk by 89.2 percent from 2008 to 2017.
