Report: Meridian spent $18,147 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Meridian Community Unit School District 101 is up 49 percent from five years ago, according to a Southern Illinois News analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Pulaski County school district spent $12,219 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $18,147 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 593 to 475.

Meridian's spending in 2016-17 was 40 percent higher than the state average of $12,973.
