Most frugal cities in Southern Illinois

Budget 01

Village of New Burnside, Village of Simpson and Village of Mill Creek top the list in Southern Illinois with the lowest spending per capita in 2017, Illinois State Comptroller financial reports show.

State law requires local governments to self-report financial records each year, including revenue, spending and debt. Municipal spending per capita is calculated to compare budget habits across cities and villages.
