Village of Niles Public Safety Committee and Public Works Committee Met March 18.

Call to Order: 09:10
I. Approval of the Minutes from October 20, 2020 Public Safety Meeting: Motion to approve the October 20, 2020 meeting was made by T. Fidanza and second by Chief Tigera. All in attendance approved.
II. New Business
a. Fire Station 2 Feasibility Study Award: J. Giannetti of Public Works presented information on the Fire Station 2 study. FGM Architects was chosen based on their experience with neighboring communities. The proposal came in under $20,000. Motion to proceed made by Chief Feld and seconded by Chief Tigera with all in attendance agreeing.
b. Street Parking Obstructing Emergency Vehicle Responses: Public Works Director, F. Braun, presented on safety concerns that affect Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments, as well as the community. A major issue of concern is street parking and emergency vehicle accessibility which is becoming a year round problem. A subcommittee of Village staff is being formed to strategize and propose solutions, which will be presented for public input.
c. Detective Bureau Vehicle Plan: Chief Tigera discussed the need for replacing detective vehicles. Chief Tigera and J. Giannetti will work together on a plan to sell the existing vehicles, and look for leasing and forfeiture funds to purchase or lease new vehicles.
d. Retail Theft Ordinance: Chief Tigera discussed the need to add into our Ordinances enforcement charges for retail theft, as the Village has with other violations (legal was involved in the process and approve the changes). A motion to proceed with proposed changes was made by T. Fidanza and seconded by Chief Feld, all in attendance approved.
e. Plate Carrier: Chief Tigera presented on the need to purchase of new body armor plates in a 2-phase acquisition. All in attendance approved.

f. Social Worker (Ordinance Change): Chief Tigera also requested a social worker for the Police Department due to the increased cases coming out of calls for service. It was agreed that this request does not require an Ordinances change. All in attendance approved the motion.

a. Chief Tigera - Personnel
IV. Items Arising out of Executive Session: The committee, recommends the transfer an employee of the Niles Family Services to the Niles Police Department. All in attendance approved the motion.
