Hardin County Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Jan. 29.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Regular called meeting of the Hardin County Community Unit School District No. 1 met in the board room at the District office. The meeting was called to order by Jimmy Stunson at 6:30 p.m. Present were: Greg McDowell, Ryan Cowsert, Brenda Butts, Jeremy Littrell, Samantha Mosby, and Jimmy Stunson. Jana Cowgill was absent. Administrators present: Andy Edmondson, Susan Armstrong, and Johnie Edwards.

Members of the HCEA were recognized as guests.

A motion was made by Cowsert and seconded by Mosby to approve the consent agenda as presented. Littrell, yes; McDowell, yes; Mosby, yes; Cowsert, yes; Stunson, yes; Butts, yes.

Administrative reports:

Ms. Edwards provided updates on the school calendar, noted the fire marshal visit had been rescheduled, and discussed weather-related adjustments to ballgames. Mrs. Armstrong reported on the spelling bee and benchmark testing pathways, noting progress ahead of last year. Mr. Edmondson shared updates on the upcoming asbestos inspection, tree clearing for electrical lines by Curt Hubbs, Mr. DeNeals class constructing picnic tables for the new pavilion, a bus incident, and GEC matters. He also reported on today’s pre-bid meeting, interior updates needing to be made to the outside gym, and clearing of the student parking lot.

A motion was made by Mosby and seconded by McDowell to approve the semi-annual review of closed session minutes keeping minutes closed. McDowell, yes; Mosby, yes; Cowsert, yes; Stunson, yes; Butts, yes; Littrell, yes. 6 yes, 0 no, motion carried.

A motion was made by Littrell and seconded by Cowsert to approve the 2025-26 Seniority lists as presented. Mosby, yes; Cowsert, yes; Stunson, yes; Butts, yes; Littrell, yes; McDowell, yes. 6 yes, 0 no, motion carried.

A motion was made by Cowsert and seconded by Butts to accept the FY25 Annual Audit. Cowsert, yes; Stunson, yes; Butts, yes; Littrell, yes; McDowell, yes; Mosby, yes. 6 yes, 0 no, motion carried.

The Board reviewed activity accounts and made no changes.

A motion was made by Mosby and seconded by Cowsert to approve out of state trips as presented. Stunson, yes; Butts, yes; Littrell, yes; McDowell, yes; Mosby, yes; Cowsert, yes.

A motion was made by Mosby and seconded by Littrell to enter into executive session at 6:58 p.m. Butts, yes; Littrell, yes; McDowell, yes; Mosby, yes; Cowsert, yes; Stunson, yes.

A motion was made by Mosby and seconded by McDowell to the January 29th BOE sheet as presented.

• Resignations: Michael Anderson – Elementary Special Education Teacher CD2 immediately, Tayler Threet – HS English Teacher at the end of the 2025-26 school year. 

• Retirements: Janet Moore – 1st grade Teacher at the end of the 2028-29 school year 

• Employment/Reassignment: Candy Fatheree – Special Education Teacher CD2

• Volunteer: Brock Warren – Archery

• Leave of Absence: Makayla Brittingham
