FOIA Request to City of Mounds Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government affairs, Southern Illinois News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Mounds. Our request seeks detailed records of businesses registered with the city during the previous week. Specifically, we are asking for information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.
This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We have requested that these records be provided in electronic format to facilitate efficient analysis and reporting. As members of the media dedicated to informing the public and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to such records is crucial for our work.
Additionally, we have requested a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating information as a media organization. Our efforts are further supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
