Community Unit School District #201 Board of Education met Feb. 24.

CALL TO ORDER
On February 24, 2026, at 7:01 p.m., Leah Conover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education.
Roll Call
Members Present: Leah Conover, Heather Franklin, Carlos Hevia, Timothy Hoerman, Adina Hoover, Kevin Marren,
Members Absent: Alexandria Mil
Also present: Superintendent Jack Baldermann, Ron O’Connor, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and HR, and the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt.
Pledge of Allegiance
President Conover led the Assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.
CLOSED SESSION
Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Dr. Hoover, to enter closed session for the purpose of discussing specific employees and other matters relating to individual students.

Motion carried.
The Board entered closed session at 7:03 p.m.
The Board returned to open session at 7:18 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
February 10, 2026
Motion by Mr. Hoerman, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the February 10, 2026, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

INFORMATION and DISCUSSION
1. Tutoring Opportunities
The District is currently engaging in two separate tutoring programs.
Dr. Carla Braun, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, and Amy Quattrone, Principal of Westmont Junior High School, presented on tutoring at Westmont Junior High. WJHS is currently part of a research study through Carnegie Mellon University, Stanford University, and Carnegie Learning. The program will be for 23 students chosen by the staff based on test scores and will be part of their intervention. It is currently a pilot program with potential expansion into 26-27. It will combine 1:1 virtual tutoring and MATHia math software.Their presentation included:

The Board would like them to report back on the program.
Dr. Kevin Ryan, Principal of Manning Elementary, and Edith Courington, Assistant Superintendent of English Learning & Community Relations, presented an overview of the tutoring program at Manning. The program includes one teacher, Ms. Troha, and two teaching assistants, Ms. Dispensa and Ms. Salemi, who supervise high school and junior high tutors working with second and third-grade students.
The Board would like the program to utilize our own students as tutors and has requested that data on the program’s outcomes be shared.
2. Finance and Facilities Recap
Prior to the Board meeting, the Finance and Facilities Committee reconvened to follow up on the February 10, 2026, meeting. Representatives from the Village of Westmont, the CUSD 201 Board of Education, district staff, and community members were in attendance.
The administration addressed questions from the previous meeting regarding funding sources, potential hybrid models, property assessments, and related topics.
The committee will meet again on March 17, 2026, and has requested the following information from the administrative team:
● A plan to better advertise committee meetings
● Next steps for gathering community feedback
● A summary of items identified as not up to code in the most recent inspections

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Mr. Hoerman, to approve the the Fiscal Year 2027 Student Fees, as presented.

Communication
Superintendent Baldermann shared with the Board some information that was received at the DuPage Curriculum Directors Meeting. The data is information regarding student growth. This is so important because it shows that all of our students our learning.
