City of Metropolis City Council met Dec. 22.

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22nd, 2025, in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Council members were present: Alderwoman Michele Longworth, Aldermen Chuck Short, Cord Koch, Jeff Bullock, Jermey Holley, Chad Lewis, Darryl Neill, Al Wagner, Mayor Gregg Jeffords, Corporate Counsel Andrew Leonard, City Clerk Jan Adams and concerned citizens of Metropolis.

The motion comes out of the Police & Fire Committee that met on 11-24-25 to explain the new Illinois public act that requires dispatchers to have specialized training beginning January 1, 2026.

The mayor reported that the airport’s six-unit T-hanger building is near completion as engineers from the door company was on site Monday ensuring they functioned properly. Brown & Roberts are officially 151 days passed where they were supposed to be.

DEPARTMENT HEADS:

We had another successful annual Christmas for Kids Toy Drive held Saturday, December 20th. informed Chief Micah Tolbert.

The mayor shared that we had a good turnout for the 3rd community meal provided by the City of Metropolis and Lutheran Church of the Cross on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, serving around 100 people.

Mayor Jeffords stated we didn’t receive the information on the utility truck before the packets were sent. This is like the utility truck purchased for the light department and comes with the factory warranty. This will replace the aging truck used by water department.
